In the days of the gold rush the village of Clinton was known as 47 Mile House, marking its distance from Mile 0 in Lillooet. Following completion of the Cariboo Waggon Trail, it was renamed in honour of Henry Clinton, who served as the Colonial Secretary during that time. The village revels in the natural beauty that encases it and the rich history that created it. Explore Clinton through its 60 km (37 mi.) of marked cross-country ski trails, which are also used as hiking and mountain biking trails throughout the summer. Don’t forget to pack your camera.

Discover Painted Chasm in Chasm Provincial Park, 15 km (9 mi.) north of Clinton. This awe-inspiring site is thousands of years old and was created by glacier melt waters. The chasm, which is 1.5 km long and 120 m (394 ft.) deep, is Mother Nature's canvas with its breathtaking display of pink and orange rocks. Located in the heart of the village and formerly used as a courthouse by Sir Begbie, “the hanging-judge,” the Clinton Museum takes you back in time through the “trials” and tribulations of pioneer living. The building that houses the museum, built in 1892, has been used as both a schoolhouse and a courthouse in the past, and was constructed from locally hand-made bricks.

Clinton is located on Highway 97, 80km (50 mi.) south of 100 Mile House. Both bus and train access the village. There is a private turf/gravel airstrip outside the village. Commercial airlines fly into Kamloops, 101km (62 mi.) southwest of Clinton. Population: 727
